Cinnamon Toast Crunch Is Launching a Spicy Breakfast Cereal

Ever eaten a bowl of cereal and been disappointed that it didn’t hurt your mouth at all? Well, Cinnamon Toast Crunch has a solution, and it’s coming in hot: It’s a new limited edition spicy version of their popular breakfast cereal called CinnaFuego Toast Crunch, and yes, that is what they decided to call it. I don’t know whether to call up General Mills and thank them, or run outside, fall to my knees and scream, “WHY?!”

No matter your reaction to this oh-so-spicy news, you are probably wondering what the cereal aisle’s new resident bad boy will actually taste like. Apparently, it tastes like regular old Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but with a chili-based kick. That might seem a bit anticlimactic. I had pictured more of a Flamin’ Hot Cheetos-type savory cereal, ala Flamin’ Frosted Flakes. But I can see why they went with a safer option that is more likely to be eaten for breakfast unironically.

According to a spokesperson for General Mills, Cinnamon Toast Crunch is “always looking to give [their] fans the most absurd and exciting experiences,” and they “can’t wait for CTC lovers to try CinnaFuego, and if they dare, eat it with some milk for breakfast,” Food Business News reports. I, for one, would absolutely “dare” to eat CinnaFuego with milk for breakfast, as I now find myself needing to know what spicy cereal milk tastes like, at any cost.

And while personally, I would prefer a Flamin’ Hot Cheetos-inspired cereal (what can I say, I’m a wacky gal), I wouldn’t say no to some CinnaFuego Toast Crunch. I would just have to go find some. My search revealed that the cereal will be available online exclusively at Walmart.com beginning August 12, “while supplies last.” So when they said “limited edition,” they really meant limited.

Since the brand started in 1984, Cinnamon Toast Crunch has come out with many limited edition flavors, from Chocolate to Dulce de Leche to Peanut Butter Toast Crunch, and I have to hope that, unlike those flavors, this new spicy addition to the CTC lineup is here to stay (at least for a while). But, if I miss the buying window in August, I’ll just have to resort to my backup plan: eating some OG Cinnamon Toast Crunch with a bunch of cayenne pepper dumped all over it.
